On February 17, 2016, the cornerstone laying ceremony of the plant of Qiantu Motor (Suzhou) Co., Ltd. (Qiantu Motor) was held in Suzhou, signifying that the mass production of China's first pure electric sports car "Qiantu K50" was coming, and that emerging automotive enterprises as represented by Qiantu Motor were shifting from the era of conceptual design to the era of production.
he Phase I project of Qiantu Motor's Suzhou plant has an investment of over 2 billion Yuan, with an initial covering area of 230,000 sq.m and an initial planned production capacity of 50,000 units. Different from the conventional auto production mode which comprises punching, welding, painting and general assembly techniques, this plant has a brand-new design oriented towards "meeting the manufacturing demand on new energy vehicles (NEV)".
Qiantu Motor's Suzhou plant will be constructed and designed according to two core concepts: 1. Plan on the basis of "lightweight body" which is the core technical difficulty of NEVs. The plant is expected to include a brand-new production system comprising the "carbon fiber fast molding workshop" and "all-aluminum body welding workshop". It is a very critical practice of the brand-new manufacturing technologies of NEVs within the territory of China. 2. Plan on the basis of the information management platform covering total life cycle of product. In the era of Industry 4.0, the total life cycle information management is the core solution to improve production capacity. The Suzhou plant will be designed according to the concept of Industry 4.0, and comprise a total information management system to effectively integrate various links, including supply chain management, production and sales, etc. Upon completion, this plant is expected to initiate large-scale customization in the auto industry of China and produce according to the orders and individualized configuration requirements of customers.
As Mr. Lu Qun, chairman of Qiantu Motor, stated on the foregoing two major planning concepts, "many people have a wrong and dangerous understanding that the technical threshold of NEV has lowered. Lightweight body, efficient, safe and stable battery pack and vehicle control unit all raise brand-new requirements on the production and manufacturing of NEVs. The informatization management mode in the era of the Internet also renders enormous opportunities for the capacity optimization of new energy vehicles. How to effectively integrate new requirements and opportunities? It is impossible to realize technical renovation by patching up on the old production framework. This is where the significance and opportunity of Qiantu Motor's Suzhou plant lie."
With an organic combination of "informatization management" and "lightweight body", Qiantu Motor's Suzhou plant makes it possible for the substantial increase in the "vehicle production efficiency". It is expected that the first Qiantu K50 sports car will be formally launched at the end of 2016. It is a highly significant moment for the NEV industry, the most fundamental industry of Made in China 2025. Upon completion, the plant will become the first model factory of NEVs within the territory of China in the real sense.
